B uilt in 1953 initiated by the first President Mr. Soekarno. Istiqlal Mosque is the largest Mosque in South East Asia. Besides being a place of worship, this mosque is proof of harmonious life in Indonesia because of its location in front of the cathedral church. (Visit only at the outside area).
Located in front of Istiqlal Mosque, The Cathedral build in gothic style dates back to 1891. It has a high tower with high windows decorated with glass paintings. Inside the church are 3 altars that together form a semi-circle. It also has a beautiful old altar that reflects sound like a conch shell. (Visit only at the outside area).
Explore Mangga Besar Street, famous for some local people selling ‘Cobra Snake’ Sate, and people drink the blood of Cobra. You can taste the king of fruit, Durian, which has a strong smell and a unique texture. The tour guide will let you taste the famous Jakarta Pancake, also known as Martabak, with cheese mixed with chocolate.
Formerly this area was the center of Dutch colonial government. There is a canal with a building background with Dutch architecture, therefore this area is known as little Amsterdam.
Sunda Kelapa Harbor was the center of trade on Java Island long ago. This port is still operating for domestic shipping with Pinisi (Traditional Wooden boat) lined up neatly on the port.
Visit New China Town, which has new and modern buildings full of shining lights, is located on the beach, and has many street food vendors. You can take photos with the pagodas and statues typical of Chinatown.
